  • Are my favourites deleted when I delete a collection that contains those favourites?

    No. When you delete a collection, the favourites inside it will move back into the collections view.

  • Are there any fees associated with Ovi Maps?

    Ovi Maps is free of charge. However, fees may apply if you establish an internet connection to synchronise your compatible mobile device with Ovi Maps. Contact your network service provider for information about data transmission charges.

  • Can I access the Ovi Maps website on my mobile device?

    No. You cannot currently access Ovi Maps through the browser on your mobile device, but you can synchronise places and routes from Ovi Maps with your compatible mobile device.

    To synchronise places from Ovi Maps with your mobile device, your mobile device needs to have the Maps 3.0 software installed.

  • Do I need a mobile internet connection to synchronise between my mobile device and Ovi Maps?

    Yes. You must have a mobile internet connection to synchronise your favourites from Ovi Maps to your compatible mobile device. Ovi Maps is hosted on a server and therefore synchronising is not possible using a USB data cable or Bluetooth connectivity.

  • How can I check which Maps version is installed on my mobile device?
    To check your Maps version, open Maps on your device.
    1. Select Options
    2. Select About

  • How can I rate a Place?

    Select the Place you wish to rate, and select More Details. You can now move your mouse cursor over the stars where the rating is indicated (full/empty stars) and a text description of the rating shall be displayed at each point. By default the average rating is displayed, as well as the total number of submitted ratings

    Please note that you need to be logged in to a Ovi Maps account to rate a Place.

  • How do I add a place to a collection?
    1. Select the collection, and then click Add Favourites.
    2. Select the places that you want to be in the collection.
    3. Click Add Favourites to save the changes.
    4. Click Back to return to the Collections view.
  • How do I add a place to the Collections view?

    You can save an address or a place to the Collections view by right-clicking on the map, and selecting Add to collections. The place will be added to the Collections.

  • How do I create a collection?
    1. To create a collection, select create new collection in the Collections view.
    2. Define a collection name.
    3. Select the places that you want to be in the collection.
    4. Click on the new collection to start adding favourites to it.
    5. Click Back to return to the Collections view.
  • How do I create a route?
    To create a route between places, do the following:
    1. Open the Routing panel.
    2. Select the place you want to set as the starting point for the route.
    3. Select Add to route.
    4. Browse to or search for another place, and select Add to Route. The route between the starting point and the place is calculated. The route calculation takes into account your settings, for example, your transportation settings.
    5. To save the route, select Save. You have to be signed in to Ovi Maps to save the route.
  • How do I delete a collection? New, translation?

    To delete a collection, select the collection in the Collections view, and click Delete. You need to confirm the deletion, because the collection will be removed permanently from your favourites.

  • How do I delete a place?

    You only can delete places that you created yourself and that are stored in the Collections view. You cannot delete predefined points of interest.

    To delete a place, select the place in the Collections view, and click the delete icon. You need to confirm the deletion, because the place will be removed permanently from your favourites and collections.

  • How do I edit a favourite place?
    You can edit the name and the icon of places that are stored in the Collections view.
    1. Select a place in the Collections view, and click the edit icon.
    2. Select the new icon, or click the place label to edit the name of the place.
    3. Click the save icon to finish the editing and save the changes.

  • How do I edit the name of a collection?
    1. Select the collection, and click Edit.
    2. Click the collection label, and edit the name of the collection.
  • How do I edit the route options?

    You can edit the route options for a new route or for a route that you have stored in the Collections view. When you change the route options, the route will be recalculated according to your changes.

    You can set the following options:
    • Transportation: Set if the calculated route is based on travelling by foot or by car.
    • Route: Set different route conditions. This option varies, depending on the selected transportation method.
    • Use: Set the calculated route to take different characteristics into account. For example, you can set toll roads to be allowed when calculating the route.
  • How do I find a place, for example, a city?

    To find a place, enter search terms in the search field. Only street addresses and city or country names are accepted.

    When you search for a place, the map is centered on the location that best matches your query. If there are other places that match your query, these alternatives are displayed in a list. If the search term you use applies to, for example, a city and a region, the map centres on the region to include all possible matches.

    To view the place in more detail, click the place indicator.

  • How do I get started with using Ovi Maps?

    To get started, just go to maps.ovi.com . You can start using the map and saving your favourite places straight away.

  • How do I change the synchronisation settings?
    To change your synchronisation settings, do the following:
    1. Open the Maps application on your mobile device.
    2. Select Options
    3. Select Tools
    4. Select Settings
    5. Select Synchronisation
    6. Change the settings.
  • How do I change the look of the map?
    You can choose between different map views:
    • Map view
    • Satellite view
    • Terrain view

    The button on the upper left displays your current map view. It displays Map, Satellite, or Terrain. To change the view, select the button.

    You can also switch between 2D and 3D views. To change the angle of the 3D view, select the angle rocker inside the compass.

    To rotate the map view, click and drag the compass.

  • How do I modify a route I have created?
    To modify your route, select the route from the All favourites view, and do the following:
    • To change the name of the route, click Routing. Click Save, edit the name, and confirm the changes.
    • To remove places from the route, click Routing. Select the place you want to remove, and click the delete icon.
    • To add a place to the route, click Routing. Right-click a place on the map, or use the search to add a waypoint to your route.

    To delete a route, click the delete icon in the Collections view. The delete icon appears when you hover the mouse cursor over a route.

  • How do I synchronise Ovi Maps with my compatible mobile device?

    You can synchronise favourites stored in your compatible mobile device to your Ovi Maps account if you have installed the Maps 3.0 software on your mobile device and you have an Ovi account.

    When you synchronise favourites between your mobile device and Ovi Maps, the map itself is not automatically downloaded to your mobile device during the synchronisation. To transfer map data to your compatible mobile device, you need to use Nokia Map Loader application.

    To synchronise the locations, collections, and routes you have stored in your compatible mobile device to your Ovi account, do the following:
    1. Open the Nokia Maps application on your mobile device.
    2. Select Options
    3. Select Favourites
    4. Select Synchronise with Ovi
    5. Enter your account details and password, and select OK.

    Synchronising may involve the transmission of large amounts of data through your network service provider’s network. Contact your network service provider for information about data transmission charges.

    If you have edited your favourites on your mobile device and in Ovi Maps since you last synchronised these two, the next time you synchronise, the edited data in Ovi Maps replaces the data on your compatible mobile device.

  • How do I zoom in and out?
    To zoom, you can:
    • Use the zoom slider on the map.
    • Use the mouse scroll wheel.
    • Double click the left or right mouse button.
    • Use the + and - keyboard keys.
  • I am using a PC with Internet Explorer, and I have updated the plugin and now I can’t view Ovi Maps. What should I do?
    If you are unable to use Ovi Maps after updating the plugin, you should try removing all your old plugin versions, then reinstalling again.
    1. Go to Start and select Control Panel.
    2. Select Add/Remove Programs
    3. Look in the list of applications for an entry called Ovi Maps Browser Plugin. If that appears in your list, select Ovi Maps Browser Plugin and then select Uninstall to remove it.
    4. Open Internet Explorer, and select Tools.
    5. Select Manage Add-ons.
    6. Select Enable or Disable Add-ons. Search for the Ovi Maps plugin in the list, and if you find it there, uninstall it.

    Once you have uninstalled any old versions of the plugin, you can restart Internet Explorer, and go back to maps.ovi.com. From here you can re-install the plugin

  • I cannot see the map. What do I have to do?

    Ensure that JavaScript has been enabled in your browser settings.

    If you still cannot see the map, delete your browser cache and cookies, restart the browser, and reinstall the Ovi Maps browser plugin from maps.ovi.com.

  • Is my mobile device compatible with Ovi Maps?

    To synchronise places between Ovi Maps and your mobile device, your mobile device needs to have the Maps 3.0 software installed.

    To download the Maps 3.0 software, see www.nokia.com/maps. You can also find information on which devices are supported.

  • What are collections?

    You can create collections to keep your favourite places organised in Ovi Maps. A collection is like a folder that contains favourites that you have created.

  • What are the requirements for synchronising my mobile device with Ovi Maps?
    The following requirements have to be fulfilled:
    • You have installed Maps 3.0 on your compatible mobile device.
    • You have an account on Ovi Maps.
    • You have already stored at least one favourite in your Ovi Maps account.
    • You have the possibility to establish an internet connection on your compatible mobile device.
  • What are the system and browser requirements for using Ovi Maps?
    To use Ovi Maps, you must have one of the following:
    • Microsoft Windows XP: Internet Explorer 6 or 7, or Mozilla Firefox 2 or 3
    • Microsoft Windows Vista: Internet Explorer 7, or Mozilla Firefox 2 or 3
    • Macintosh Mac OSX: Safari 3

    The preferred browsers are Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox 3 or Safari for Macintosh.

    Other browsers and operating systems are not currently supported.

    You must have the administrative rights to install the Ovi Maps browser plugin on your compatible PC or Macintosh computer. To download the plugin, go to maps.ovi.com.

  • What does “Point of interest” mean?

    A Point of Interest (POI) is a specific location that may be found useful. Maps includes a number of POI's that represent street addresses, city names, and country names. In addition to these there are POI's representing locations such as restaurants, hospitals, and airports. These POI's are represented by specific icons on the map.

    Using Maps allows you to instantly call and/or browse to the POI's, as well as sharing your location information with other mobile users (sending map image over MMS, sending GPS coordinates using S60 landmark messaging over MMS). You can also store address information to the phone book for immediate navigation access.

    If you are using Ovi Maps, you can define your own POIs, known as Places and store them as your favourites. You can add specific icons and additional information to your Places, and save them in your personal Ovi Maps account and synchronise them to your compatible mobile device.

  • What is a Nokia Map Loader?

    Nokia Map Loader is an application for both PC and Mac with which you can download maps to your compatible PC or Mac and transfer them to your mobile device. With Nokia Map Loader you save in data transfer costs, and the downloading is faster than with a mobile internet connection.

    If you download the map of a country with Nokia Map Loader, the map is immediately available in your device when you start the Maps application, and you do not have to wait for the data to be downloaded over the mobile internet connection.

  • What is Ovi Maps?

    Ovi Maps is an internet service where you can browse places from all over the world and save them as your favourites in your personal Ovi Maps account.

    With Ovi Maps you can:
    • Save your favourite places and routes (requires an Ovi account).
    • Search for addresses and different points of interest, for example, restaurants, hospitals, and airports.
    • Discover cities and countries around the world with different views, for example, satellite or 3D views.
    • Synchronise your favourite places from your compatible mobile device with the favourites in your Ovi account.
    • See the weather forecast for different regions around the world.

    You don’t need to download or install anything to use Ovi Maps. However, for a more complete Ovi Maps experience, we suggest installing the Ovi Maps browser plugin. You can download the plugin directly from maps.ovi.com .

  • What is the Ovi Maps browser plugin?

    The browser plugin allows you to view additional features on Ovi Maps, such as 3D landmarks and 3D map mode. To use the plugin version of Ovi Maps, you must install the Ovi Maps browser plugin on your compatible PC or Macintosh computer. To do this, download the Ovi Maps browser plugin from the Ovi Maps homepage. To complete the installation, you must enter the required information.

  • What synchronisation settings are available?
    You can synchronise your favourites from Ovi Maps every time you open and close the Maps application on your mobile device. To do so, open the Maps application on your mobile device, and:
    1. Select Options
    2. Select Tools
    3. Select Settings
    4. Select Synchronisation

    To control when the data is synchronised, select At start-up and shut-d. If you prefer to always synchronise your device manually, select Manual. To confirm your selection, select OK.

    You can synchronise your favourites manually at any time. To do so, open the Maps application on your mobile device, and:
    1. Select Options
    2. Select Favourites
    3. Select Synchronisation

  • When should I update the Ovi Maps browser plugin?

    If you are using an outdated version of the Ovi Maps browser plugin, you will receive a message when entering the service, asking you to install the most recent version. In the future, automatic updating will be available.

    If you do not see the upgrade message and cannot see the map, delete your browser cache and cookies, restart the browser, and reinstall the Ovi Maps browser plugin from www.maps.ovi.com.

  • Where are my favourites? I only can see the map when I enter Ovi Maps.

    You can only access your personal favourites and routes after you have signed in to Ovi Maps.

    Sign in, and click the Collections button to open the favourites and collections panel.

    To collapse the panel, allowing a full view of the map, click the panel’s collapse icon on the right side of the panel.

  • Why can’t I calculate a route?
    If you are having difficulties calculating a route, check the following:
    • Are you connected to the internet? You need to have an active connection to the internet to create a new route with Ovi Maps.
    • Is your route long? If you are trying to calculate a very long route (for example, between Brussels and Moscow), or a route with many waypoints, the calculation may take some time. Wait while the route is being calculated.
  • How can I rate a Place?

    Select the Place you wish to rate, and select More Details. You can now move your mouse cursor over the stars where the rating is indicated (full/empty stars) and a text description of the rating shall be displayed at each point. By default the average rating is displayed, as well as the total number of submitted ratings

    Please note that you need to be logged in to a Ovi Maps account to rate a Place.

  • How can I rate a Place in more detail?
    By selecting the More Detail link in the Places window you may have the possibility to leave a more detailed rating for a Place. For certain categories (for example Restaurant, Cinema, Museum, Hotel and others) a detailed rating is offered. A restaurant can be rated for example by
    • Food
    • Price
    • Service
    • Ambience

    The scale ranges between 1 and 5 bars. The more bars you give the more you like it. By moving with the mouse cursor over the rating levels you can decide how many bars you will give for a place.

  • How can I report a Place?

    If a Place does not exist anymore, contains incorrect or missing information, or the icon is in the wrong location on the map we would like you to report it.

    In order to report a place that does not exist anymore please open the More Detail window of the Place:
    1. Select Report this place
    2. 2. Select There’s missing or incorrect information
    3. 3. A set of predefined sub-entries is displayed and you can choose different data types that needs adjustment or correction. After you have chosen the one you identified as incorrect you are asked to enter the correct information and then select the Submit button to send your report.
    If you want to report missing or incorrect data attached to a Place please open the More Detail window of the Place:
    1. Select Report this place
    2. Select There’s missing or incorrect information
    3. A set of predefined sub-entries is displayed and you can choose different data types that needs adjustment or correction. After you have chosen the one you identified as incorrect you are asked to enter the correct information and then select the Submit button to send your report
    If you come across a Place icon that contains correct information but is in the wrong location on the map please open the More Detail window of the place:
    1. Select Report this Place
    2. Select The icon is in the wrong place
    3. Grab the icon that is displayed on the section of the map and drag it to the correct location. When you found the desired position release the mouse and click the Submit button.
  • How should I balance my rating for a Place?

    The more you like a Place the more stars you can give it. You can leave a maximum of 5 stars depending on your experiences of the Place. The categories in the More Detail window will vary depending on the content of the Place.

  • What additional information is available for a Place?

    If you select the Show Details link you will get additional information provided by different 3rd party guides. The availability, the language and amount of content provided can differ as it depends on the content provided by the 3rd party providers.

    The content may include a description, a gallery, as well as contact information. It is possible to rate the place in more detail as well to add the place to your collections or to the route you are planning.

  • What are Places?

    Places in Ovi Maps are points of interest found on the map. You can access place related information in different ways. You can share your opinion about a Place by rating it, as well as reporting incorrect or missing data

    Selecting the place in the menu list on the left or selecting the place directly on the map will bring up a small window containing a basic information on the Place. The basic information covers, for example, the category, the distance from the search centre, the address or contact information (Information may vary depending on the provider of the content). Furthermore within the more detailed window you will find the possibility to rate the place.

  • Why should I rate a Place?

    It lets you to share your opinion about the places you either like or dislike with other Ovi Maps users. Furthermore, you can give others a sense of the places you visit regularly and help them to decide whether a place suits their interests or not. You can rate places by selecting the number of stars you feel reflects it overall, as well as rating specific aspects such as Service and Price.

  • Why should I report wrong, missing or incorrect data of a Place?

    We do endeavour to keep up to date with the content, however in some cases shops may close or restaurants may move before we are aware of it. If you come across incorrect or missing data before we do, reporting it will allow us to check and, if appropriate, update the Place for you and other users. Furthermore you can propose to add details like contact data or the website address of a Place, in that way the map will become more detailed.

    Please note that the changes you proposed won’t be visible immediately as we will need to double check to ensure accuracy of the proposed changes.
